With insightful and bold leadership, Monroe County created what was a ‘state of the art’ conservation and recreation strategy in 2001 with voter support, and aggressively pursued the funding necessary to articulate that deep community conservation ethic. By 2014, Monroe County and its conservation partners had wildly surpassed the original open space and recreation goals.
