Lacawac Sanctuary is a 520-acre non-profit, nature preserve in the Pocono Mountains region. The Sanctuary retained Simone Collins to prepare a campus master plan and to plan an adaptive redevelopment of an acquired residential inholding as a new visitor center structure. Both plans define upgrades and expansion of existing academic, research, and visitor residence facilities. SC strategies focused on creating new sustainable venue – capable of hosting educational gatherings. An “eco-village” concept plan developed by SC that features green principles for on-site residences, renewable energy options, alternative wastewater strategies; and sustainable site improvements that protect the watershed quality of a hydraulically sequestered glacial Lake Lacawac – as a pristine National Natural Landmark.
